Password Protect

Password-protect a PDF with AES-256 — without losing text search or destroying formatting.

Why it's not live yet

The original approach worked
Our first build rasterized each page before encrypting. Fast, simple, shippable.
But it broke search
Rasterizing replaces every letter with pixels. Ctrl-F stops finding anything. Screen readers can't read the file. For résumés and contracts, that's a worse outcome than leaving the feature off.
So we're redoing it
Migrating to a native encryption pass on the PDF object tree — same AES-256, but text stays text. No server involved; still 100% in your browser.
